Former EastEnders star Rita Simons was eliminated from the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle on Tuesday night, as she became the third celebrity to leave the camp.
Before her exit, the actress left viewers at home gobsmacked as she confessed she was The Apprentice star Lord Alan Sugar’s niece, as the contestants discussed their star-studded family trees.
Now, the outspoken business tycoon has broken his silence on Rita being voted off the show, as he speculated that the revelation may have been the reason for her exit.
As Rita’s official account tweeted: “Hands up if you was this many years old when you found out Rita was the niece of Lord Alan Sugar #TeamRita #I’mACeleb.”
Lord Sugar later jokingly replied: “That is maybe why the public voted her out. It might be my fault.”
Rita’s exit was initially at the centre of fresh I’m A Celeb fix claims, as it emerged that she was due to be starring in a Christmas pantomime three days after her departure.
The performance of Sleeping Beauty is due to begin in Bournemouth Pavillion on Saturday, perfectly coinciding with Rita’s exit from the jungle.
Speculating on social media, one fan wrote: “Rita’s in a panto this year tht opens on Saturday… coincidence she gets voted aff tnite?”
While another added: “Hmm interesting. Rita out of #ImACeleb and starring in a pre-booked panto on Saturday”.
However, the confusion was soon cleared up, as while the production begins on Saturday, Jennifer Ellison will be standing in for Rita as Fairy Carabosse until 12 October.
The turnaround will still be a quick one for Rita, who will have two days to fly back to the UK in time for her panto debut.
Rita isn’t the only star from the popular show to be heading to the stage after returning from Down Under, as Anne Hegerty will also be starring in Dick Whittington in Windsor from 18 December.
